III International Workshop Layered Materials:

Design and Function

Conference Venue

The III International Workshop on Layerd Materials will be held in the conference rooms of the Ruhr University Bochum.

The Ruhr University with about 33000 students and ca. 4700 empoyees integrates all disciplines (arts, law, economics, social sciences, engineering, science, medicine, ..) on a single campus. At the Ruhr University, research is as prominent and diverse as the university itself. The research focus is in the life sciences, plasma physics and technology, and materials science.

Bochum is situated in the center of the Ruhr area - formerly dominated by coal mining and steel production. The ongoing process of restructuring established new high-tech industries, educational and cultural institutions which are now even more important than the manufacturing sector. Increasingly, the universities and technology centers have a prominent impact on Bochum and the Ruhr area. Museums of the inherited industrial culture like the famous Mining Museum, the Bochum Theater and - especially in the evening - the amusement area called "Bermuda triangle" are points of attraction.

In 2010 the Ruhr area is the European Capital of Culture with a huge number of cultural events. In a previously unknown manner 53 cities, towns and parishes with more than 5 million inhabitants invite you to take part. You might wish to stay some more days in Bochum and surroundings!
